Activated Carbons

We have been the agents of Century Chemical Works/Malaysia and distribute and sell their "Malbon®" commercial brand powdered activated carbons for food and water treatment industries.

It is well known that activated carbons can absorb pigments in both vegetable and mineral oils with their specific surfaces larger than 800 m²/g. Activated carbons are also used for: a) Adsorbtion of PAHs, dioxins, 3-MCPDs, and all kinds of polymeric hydrocarbons and oxidation products, and b) As molecular sieves for removal of molecules of 3-4 Angstrom size, which can not be adsorbed by bleaching clays.

The amount of the activated carbon required is usually between 1 – 5 % of the bleaching clay used depending on the nature of the oil.

The use of activated carbon during the bleaching process in refining of soybean, cotton, and sunflowerseed oils, as well as in refining of olive and olive pomace oils, give beneficial results in obtaining good quality, light coloured and stable products.

Activated carbons are also used in treatment of municipal and potable water. They are used to adsorb the organic materials which are harmful to human health or impart bad smell and taste like Geosmin and MIB. Powdered activated carbons made of carefully selected raw materials may be used in place of the granular ones depending on the treatment technology employed, and are used extensively in modern water treatment plants in our country.
